Winter weather is here! Class Cancellation Policy |
Classes at NLCA will be cancelled when LOCAL or widespread road conditions are reported to be
dangerous. The decision to cancel classes is made based upon information from the National
Weather Service web site, the
Weather
Underground web site , local TV news channels, and local
observations reported to us by our students.
Every effort is made to reach such decisions at least 4 hours prior to classes, but that is not always
possible when
conditions change rapidly.
As soon as we make a decision to cancel a class we'll notify you several ways.
First, we will post a message on the NLCA website in two places: at the top of the Home Page, and
at the top of the
Current Class Schedule page.
We will also post a message to the NLCA Students
e-mail list. We will ask you email us to let us know that you've seen the message.
If you are not yet a member of the students list, please do join
so that you will
receive these messages! Just click the "Join this Group" button at this page: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/NLCA_Students/
Next, we email each of you individually
at the email address you listed when you enrolled in class.
NOTE: If you are doing "Walk-Ins" you are NOT on the list to be notified!
Finally, we will notify by telephone those students who have not responded
to the Internet or email
messages. We will use the telephone number you listed when you enrolled in class.
With 60 to 100 students taking classes in any given week, notifying each of you by telephone can be
very costly. You can save us the time and expense of telephone calls (and possibly save yourself a trip!) by
checking the website or your email messages often when weather conditions might cause a cancellation,
and by letting us know if you've seen a cancellation message.
In the event that severe weather causes major or widespread power outages with downed
trees and wires, it's possible that we may not be able to contact you. In such cases,
please stay safe at home and presume that classes are cancelled.
Any class cancelled in an 8 week session will be made up at the end of the session. Cancelled classes and make-up dates are noted on the "What Week IS It?" page.
